The short version
- We collect only what we need to set up, teach and bill for lessons.
- We never sell your information, and there are no ads or tracking cookies.
- Kids don't have accounts. Everything we know about a child comes from their parent or guardian.
- You can see, fix or delete your information. Email hello@coding4kidz.ca.
Who we are
Coding 4 Kidz teaches live one-on-one coding lessons for kids, from Waterloo, Ontario. This page explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. "We" means Coding 4 Kidz.
What we collect
- When you book a free Lesson 0: your name, email, phone number and how you'd like us to contact you; your child's first name and age; and anything else you choose to tell us, like coding experience, the course or editor you're interested in, times that work, and notes.
- When you have a parent account: your contact details, the kids you add (first name, age and any notes you add), scheduled lessons and their video call links, the notes we write after each session, course progress, and invoices.
- When you pay online: payments go through Stripe. You type your card or bank details on Stripe's own page, so they never reach our website. We keep a record of what was paid, when, and Stripe's reference number for the payment.
- When you sign in: your email, when you last signed in, and your password if you set one. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody can read them, including us.
- To keep the site safe: when you ask for a sign-in link or enter a wrong password, we store your IP address for up to a day to stop spam and password guessing. Booking requests are stored with a scrambled version of your IP address for the same reason.
About children
Our students are kids, so we're careful. We collect children's information only from a parent or guardian, and the booking form asks you to confirm that you are one. Kids don't sign up, don't have accounts, and don't get messages from us. Scheduling and updates go to a parent.
We ask for a child's first name and age, not their full name, school or photo. During lessons your child shares their screen so we can see their code and help, and you're always welcome to sit in.
How we use it
- To reply to your booking request and schedule lessons.
- To teach, write session notes and keep track of progress.
- To send invoices, take payments and keep the business records the law requires.
- To send emails you need: sign-in links, session notes, and notices about your account, such as a password change.
- To keep the website secure.
We don't send marketing emails. If that ever changes, we'll ask you first. We never sell or rent personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services we need to run Coding 4 Kidz, and only what each one needs:
- Cloudflare hosts this website and stores its database.
- Resend sends our emails, like sign-in links and session notes.
- Stripe processes online payments.
- Google Fonts provides the fonts on this site. When a page loads them, your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address.
- The video call service used for lessons carries the call's audio, video and screen sharing. The link for each lesson is in your parent portal.
- Our email inbox. Booking requests are also emailed to us, and your emails to us are kept there.
Some of these services store information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information stored in another country can be accessed by its courts and government under that country's laws.
We'll also share information if the law requires it, or if it's needed to protect a child's safety.
Cookies
We use one cookie, to keep you signed in to the parent portal. It lasts up to 30 days, or until you sign out. The sign-in page also remembers, in your browser, whether you last signed in with a password or an email link. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your family takes lessons with us. Ask us anytime and we'll delete your account and your kids' information. The exception is invoices and payment records, which the Canada Revenue Agency requires us to keep for six years.
Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes. Records of sign-in requests and wrong passwords are deleted after a day.
Keeping it safe
The site only works over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Sign-in links work once and expire quickly, passwords are stored scrambled, and only approved Coding 4 Kidz admins can see family information.
If a data breach ever puts you at real risk of significant harm, we'll tell you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as the law requires.
Your choices
You can ask to see the information we have about you and your kids, correct it, or have it deleted. You can update your contact details and kids yourself under Account in the parent portal. For anything else, email hello@coding4kidz.ca and we'll reply within 30 days.
If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes to this page
When this page changes, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll email parents with an account first.
